Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other educators.

 

Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.

 

To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

COURSE STRUCTURE

Duration 52 weeks. (40 tuitions weeks plus 12 weeks break and [280 hours] of work placement inclusive).

The course consists of 15 units and is clustered into 4 groups in order to be delivered within 4 terms of full time study load. The term duration is 10 weeks.

The work placement is to be conducted after the completion of the classroom study schedule.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• [Age Requirement]: At least 18 years old at the time of course commencement.

• [Knowledge Requirement]: Successful completion of CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care OR CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

• [English Requirement]: For international students, IELTS overall 6.0 or its equivalent (TOEFL/PTE/Cambridge English are acceptable), OR complete Australian ELICOS course at upper intermediate level, OR complete any AQF Certificate IV course (or above) taught in English, OR pass the SIELL English placement test at upper intermediate level (at least 60 points out of 100) unless your nationality is the US, UK, New Zealand, Canada or Ireland.

PATHWAY

After completing the CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, students may articulate into continue their studies in Bachelor Degree programs offered by Australian Higher Education providers.

DELIVERY AND ASSESSMENT

This course (CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care) is delivered in an institution based environment with face to face delivery. The mode of training is highly practical with a combination of practical projects, simulation workplace practical tasks, case study, tutorials, group activities, individual learning and theory based documents.
